Oud or Agarwood.

Aloeswood. 

The pathological, fragrant secretion produced by the aquillaria tree in response to a fungal or bacterial attack. The oil seeps into the afflicted areas (trunk, branches, roots) but it is the heartwood that is harvested for use in perfumery. Steam, hydro-distillation and CO2 extraction obtains the oil. 

The older the tree, the more prized the oil.

Scent Profile: Deep, sweet, balanced woody note. Can be richer and musty with woody-nutty nuances. In most commercial perfumery, due to the cost of extraction, the oud note is a recreated accord.
