Sara Carner comes from a Barcelona family of leather artisans, and she has never made a perfume that wasn't, in some way, about her city. Danzatoria is the upper town - the Zona Alta - in early summer: wildflowers coming up through stone, the particular Mediterranean light that makes everything look like it's about to happen.

What it actually does on skin is peppery. Not the loud, abrasive pepper of a woody-spicy men's fragrance, this is pink pepper and pimento drawn across white florals so that everything underneath is faintly dusted with it. Jasmine sambac comes forward more than the ylang ylang. There's warmth and a zing at the same time, which shouldn't work and does.

The vanilla in the base is quieter than you'd expect. What lingers is musk and Indonesian patchouli, soft and slightly dirty, and it lingers properly: a full day on skin, and it will still be on your coat tomorrow.
